Army/IPOB Clash: Avoid another civil war – Obasanjo warns Buhari

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has called on the Federal Government to be cautious of their action against the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) so as not to cause another civil war in the country.
Led by Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB’s continuous agitation for secession despite calls for a dialogue appears not to please the Nigerian government, a situation which made Nigerian soldiers and IPOB members clash in Umuahia and Aba in Abia State.
However, the former Military head of state appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari-led Government not to get provoked by the actions of the group in order to prevent a similar occurrence of the Biafran war in 1967.
“I would want to meet Kanu myself and talk to people like him, people of his age, and ask ‘What are your worries?’ Not only from the southeast but from all parts of Nigeria.”
“Heavy boot” response to pro-Biafra sentiment is “not the solution,”
“We need to satisfy the youth in job creation, in wealth creation, in giving them a better, fulfilled
life, in giving them hope for the future,” says Obasanjo.
“There’s no easy way out. Those who fought in the war in Biafra will not want to fight any other war,” he says. “I have fought one war too many in Nigeria; I don’t want to see another.”
