Saraki Vows Not To Step Down

Bukola Saraki, the president of the Nigerian Senate and presidential aspirant under the auspice of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has publicly declared that he will not step down for any of the presidential aspirants.

Saraki made the statement in reaction to the moves by the party’s Board of Trustees to have a consensus candidate for 2019 presidential election.
The two-time former governor of Kwara state who stated that all aspirants should be given a level playing field to slug it out at the primary called on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to be free and fair in the process leading to the primaries for the best person to emerge.
The Senate President made the assertion while speaking with the journalists on Monday night, September 10, at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja shortly after submitting his expression of interest forms.
“I don’t think the consensus thing is the issue before us, because we are trying to ensure that there is internal democracy in the system and very credible primaries. What is important is that at the end of the day we have something that is rancour-free.
“What I can tell you is that we are working together because we are still part of one family. I believe at the end of the day, we will have a process that whoever emerges will be supported by all of us; so that there will be no need dividing ourselves,” he said.
